Starring two young people with Down’s syndrome (Richard Goss and Laura Jean Ellis), this sensitive drama focuses on their desire to have a relationship and how that desire is thwarted by circumstances and the well-meaning plans of their adult guardians.
To make a film in 1979 starring actors with Down syndrome was way ahead of its time. Ron Ellis deserves accolades for his accomplishment.
From Ron Ellis’ acceptance speech at the Academy Awards: “Thank you very much. Wow, I’m not a talker; I’m a filmmaker. But I would like to share this award, and I think the people who’ve seen this film will understand why, with my sister and leading lady, Laura Jean Ellis.”
These films were recommended by Anthony DiSilvo, director of Sproutflix.
