Runway of Dreams held its first annual gala and fashion show Thursday June 9, 2016, at Capitale in Manhattan to honor the innovators, pioneers and changemakers working to make fashion inclusive for people with all abilities, including the Tommy Hilfiger fashion brand. The evening included a reception, award ceremony and runway show.
The runway show featured 21 models of various ages and abilities. The models previewed future clothing collaborations from Runway of Dreams and shared their own personal stories and experiences with clothing in a video that ran in conjunction with the show.
“The Gala was a special opportunity to honor the many incredible partners and people within our community who share our mission in making fashion accessible to people of all abilities,” Mindy Scheier, Runway of Dreams founder, said. “Millions of people live with a disability, and being able to dress and wear the clothing they want is essential for confidence and self-worth. Working with Tommy Hilfiger on this collaboration has been an incredible honor and puts us one step closer to achieving our goal.”
The evening closed with a fundraiser, with proceeds going toward Runway of Dreams’ efforts to create future partnerships with brands and retailers in the fashion industry, to constantly innovate adaptive clothing through wearable technology, to support employment opportunities for people of all abilities and to organize wardrobe grants and clothing donations.
In February 2016, Runway of Dreams partnered with Tommy Hilfiger to create an adaptive version of the Tommy Hilfiger spring 2016 spring children’s line, bringing mainstream clothing to the community of people who are differently abled for the first time.

Runway of Dreams is collaborating with Tommy Hilfiger on fall and holiday children’s collections this year with plans to expand to adult lines. Runway of Dreams’ goal is to work with multiple brands and retailers, bringing fashion to people of all abilities, backgrounds and price points.
